Dear
Friends,
Ambition of
this publication is to provide the whole picture of the development of
Slovak and global petroleum industry in 2009, which was the first year
from implementation of Euro currency in Slovakia. However, it was also the
year in which the impacts of global economic crisis became evident in the
full scope in our economy.
Removal of
the last barriers restricting free competition caused that the competition
on the Slovak market sharpened yet more. Oil market in 2009 was
essentially marked by the process of deep
world
economic crisis, which signifi cantly infl uenced business environment of
oil companies. Demand for oil in the global scale declined substantially.
On the other hand the decline of demand accentuated increasing excess of
the global off er of mining and processing refi nery and petrochemical
capacities. This became evident in the increasing of the stocks of oil and
its products. Signifi cant disproportion between global supply and demand
on the oil market refl ected in the price of oil. The price declined
substantially on average interyearly. Oil firms endeavoured to resolve the
excess of supply of oil products by restriction of oil processing in refi
neries which caused that the utilization of oil capacities ranged
approximately at the level of 70% in developed economies.
Sappo
member companies considered the satisfaction of customers as the most
important aim in spite of changed economic situation, reduced absolute
demand and sharper competition connected with it. High requirements of
consumers for the quality and simultaneously for suffi ciently wide and
environmentally friendly range of products and services signifi cantly
motivated Sappo members to continuation in incurring of investments and
increasing of effort.
Last year
retail sales of association members copied adverse development tendencies
of the whole market with oil products in SR. In the strong contraction of
national economy, reduced purchasing power and consumer activity of
households and business sphere and also in consequence of signifi cant
relative cheapening of fuels in neighbouring countries based on
devaluations of local currencies, the sale of petrol and motor diesel in
the network of Sappo members declined interyearly, whereby the biggest
decrements were recorded in the fi rst quarter.
Parable
(Our customer, Our master) is true more than whenever before and therefore
we endeavour to listen more carefully to our customers and off er them
more and more superior products and services. The implementation of
biofuels in driving fuels in compliance with legislative of EU will remain
signifi cant for our members in future. We must sensitively perceive the
advantages of our geographical location, high openness and integration of
Slovakia in single market of EU and increasing requirements of customers
for the quality. We realize that to freeze in trends means stagnation
therefore within the frame of Sappo we will endeavour to reach furthest
that the wide motorist public would perceive that Sappo works in its
interest..

Chairman of SAPPO
